
The Labour Party in Cymru has been revealed to be the most successful political party in any sub-state nation in the world, according to new research by the Wales Governance Centre of Cardiff University.
The new data show that Labour has been the dominant party in Cymru for an unbroken period of 99 years— longer than any other political party in any sub-state nation.
Labour has won every Westminster election in Cymru since 1922, and every Senedd election since the first devolved election was held in 1999.
Mexico's Institutional Revolutionary Party has held power continuously for 92 years at state-level elections. While in Italy, the South Tyrolean People's Party has been in power for an uninterrupted 73 years.
In Bavaria, Germany, the Christian Social Union party has ruled for an unbroken period of 68 years in the state's assembly or Landtag.
No other political party in the United Kingdom comes close to matching Labour's dominance in Cymru.
The Ulster Unionist Party in Northern Ireland and the Labour Party in Scotland both managed to remain in power for a period of 51 years without interruption.
In Holyrood, the Scottish National Party has currently been in government for 14 consecutive years.
