The north tops UK summer destination list, survey finds

The north has been named as the most popular destination for UK residents looking to holiday in the UK this summer, according to an annual survey by Sykes Holiday Cottages.

Almost two-thirds (62%) of UK residents said that they intend to spend their main summer holiday in the UK this year— up from 50% in 2019,

Graham Donoghue, the chief executive of Sykes Holiday Cottages, said that he expected "the shift towards holidays at home to stick."

He said: “We expect the shift towards holidays at home to stick and hope to continue to see staycation destinations outside of the usual honeypot locations grow in popularity in the years to come.”

The south also made the list of the top ten most popular regions for summer holidays in the UK, securing the eighth spot.
