From Monday 24 May, family and friends will be able to visit care homes across the country, but residents can only see two people at a time.
Until now, only two designated visitors have been able to visit.
However, individual care homes and local authorities can decide whether or not to allow visits.
Visitors are now able hold their relative's hands, but must abide by physical distancing measures in a well-ventilated room.
The First Minister said the changes would "improve the quality of life for residents and their families".
