Sain Records has released on Friday (23 April) a new bilingual song celebrating the independence movement.
‘Mae’r Dydd Wedi Dod’/ ‘Let Us Be Free’ features some of the country’s most well-known artists including, Gwilym Bowen Rhys, Elis Derby, Betsan Ceiriog, Ifan Pritchard, Jalisa Andrews, Bwncath, Gwenan Gibbard, Martha Ceiriog, and Osian Huw Williams,
Sain describes the song as “a moving expression of the aspirations of young people in Wales today as we approach the May 6th Welsh election”.
The song takes inspiration from the 1988 song ‘Ar Noson Fel Hon’, which featured in a show by Cwmni Theatr Maldwyn— ‘Pum Diwrnod o Ryddid’.
The show recounted the events of the 1839 Chartist rebellion in Llanidloes, which has come to be known as “the first working class movement in the world”.
