A new opinion poll conducted by YouGov on behalf of ITV-Cymru Wales and Cardiff University shows that healthcare is the most important issue for the Welsh public in the run-up to the Senedd election.

The poll of 1,142 respondents conducted between 18 - 21 April shows some 47% of the Welsh public rank healthcare as their top priority.

Unsurprisingly, against the backdrop of the pandemic, the economy also currently sits in second place at 43%.

The third biggest issue facing the country according to the Welsh public is the issue of unemployment.

33% of Welsh voters placed unemployment in their top three.

Perhaps the only somewhat surprising finding from these data is the narrow salience of Brexit in the minds of voters above the increasingly contentious issue of housing.

19% of voters said that Brexit as one of the most important issues facing the country, versus 18% who said housing.

'Most important issues facing Wales'

(Respondents able to choose up to three, so percentages total > 100):

Health 47%

Economy 43%

Unemployment 33%

Education 21%

Environment 21%

Brexit 19%

Housing 18%
