Former First Minister Carwyn Jones has been announced as the new Chair of Trustees for climate charity Size of Wales.

As First Minister, Jones implemented environmental measures such as the Environment (Wales) Act 2016 and the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015.

During his tenure, the country often failed to meet tree-planting targets, and in some years, greenhouse emissions went up instead of down.

Size of Wales is a charity that aims to protect tropical forests from deforestation— 'an area the size of Wales' is often used to measure the rate of deforestation.

Jones said: “From my time as First Minister, I know the threat climate change poses to both our nation and our planet. I’ve also seen the brilliant work Size of Wales does in places like Mbale, working with local communities impacted by the climate crisis to grow trees and improve livelihoods.
