Menter Iaith Bangor is offering a series of free workshops on Cynghanedd for beginners, led by poet Osian Wyn Owen.
Cynghanedd is an ancient tradition within Welsh-language poetry, associated mainly with Dafydd ap Gwilym, dating back to the 14th century.
Cynghanedd has been described as the arrangement of sound within a line; using stress, alliteration, and rhyme. It is believed to be unique to the Welsh language and is the form of verse used when composing an awdl— a poem presented annually to the Cadair (Chair) competition in the Eisteddfod Genedlaethol.
Menter Iaith Bangor is offering free-of-charge workshops to “any one, any where” in the hope it will “ignite an interest in one of Wales’ most unique traditions.”
The workshops will take place on Monday evenings at 19:00 PM, starting June 21st.
